What is hotel architecture and interior design advisory?

Hotel architecture and interior design advisory is the service of guiding an owner through the design of their property so that the result is not only beautiful but commercially and operationally right. Architecture shapes the building itself — its form, its layout, the relationship of its spaces and how it sits on its site. Interior design shapes how those spaces look, feel and function for the guest. Together they create the most visible and most permanent expression of a hotel's brand. BSG's role is not to replace the architects and interior designers an owner appoints, but to act as the owner's expert advisor alongside them — helping brief, select and review the design team, and ensuring that every decision serves the guest experience, the operation and the owner's commercial interests. We bring a rare and valuable perspective: as a company that actually operates hotels, we know from daily experience which design choices elevate the guest experience and which create friction, waste and cost for years.

What BSG delivers and why BSG

BSG Hospitality serves as the owner's design advisor across architecture and interiors — helping write the design brief, select and review architects and interior designers, and scrutinise every design decision for commercial soundness and operational practicality. Because BSG operates hotels, we bring the operator's lens that pure designers lack: we know which layouts serve guests and staff, which finishes survive real use, and which design choices quietly inflate running costs. Our specialisation in premium, upscale, destination wedding and wellness properties, irrespective of room count, means we understand the design demands specific to these property types — the event spaces and photogenic settings weddings require, the calm and flow wellness demands. And consistent with BSG's owner-first philosophy, we impose no architects or designers; the owner retains complete design freedom, with BSG's expertise there to make that freedom pay. BSG is an advisory partner here, not a mandated supplier: we help you brief, select and review the right specialists and decisions, and we impose no consultants of our own. If you ask us to recommend or coordinate them, we will — but it is always your choice. Is there anything in hospitality BSG cannot handle? BSG's guiding principle is that when it comes to hospitality, there is nothing we cannot do. Whatever your property needs — across operations, commercial, people, design or infrastructure — BSG either delivers it directly or brings the right expertise to it, always under your brand and on your terms.

Architecture versus interior design — and who does what

Owners benefit from understanding the distinct roles a design effort involves, because hotels typically require a team rather than a single designer:

Concept and design architect — sets the architectural vision, form and spatial concept.

Executive / architect of record — develops and delivers the buildable, code-compliant design.

Interior designer — designs the guest-facing and back-of-house interiors, materials and finishes.

FF&E designer — specifies furniture, fixtures and equipment that bring the interiors to life.

Specialist consultants — structural, MEP, kitchen, lighting, landscape and others who must be coordinated with the design.

BSG helps the owner assemble and coordinate the right mix, and ensures these specialists work to a brief that reflects how the hotel will actually run.

Why design advisory matters

A hotel's architecture and interiors are built once and live for decades, and they silently determine both the guest's impression and the owner's operating costs. Beautiful design that ignores operational reality is a lifelong burden: room layouts that are hard to clean, back-of-house that does not flow, F&B spaces that cannot be served efficiently, finishes that look stunning on opening day and shabby within a year, and grand gestures that cost a fortune to maintain. Conversely, design that marries beauty with operational intelligence pays back every day — it photographs well, it serves the guest effortlessly, it is efficient to run and durable to own. The single most valuable thing an owner can do is bring an operator's perspective into the design process early, before decisions harden. For premium, upscale, destination wedding and wellness properties — where design is central to the guest's emotional experience and to the property's ability to command a premium — this operator-informed design advisory is especially decisive.

The design stages

Hotel design progresses through defined stages — concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and site supervision. Decisions made early are the cheapest to change and the most expensive to get wrong, which is why expert, operator-informed review at the briefing and concept stages is so valuable. BSG engages across these stages, reviewing the design as it evolves and flagging issues while they can still be corrected on paper rather than in concrete.
